Born in Brazil, grandson of Japanese immigrants, naturalized US citizen. Growing up in a poor suburb of São Paulo, transitioning into academic life, and then moving to Silicon Valley in 1993 taught me to adapt to my surroundings while not to belonging anywhere.
Professionally, I am a strategist with equal portions of technology and business. I’ve lived an amazing journey helping to build a company from scratch, being part of the beginnings on Open Source and the Internet, pursuing multiple startup projects, leading large organizations at Big Tech, and working as part of a corporate structure.
I am a part-time thinker, mountaineer, world traveler, futurist, wine snob, writer, chess player, snowboarder. Though trained as an analyst, I relate well to people on the creative edge and know that the important answers are neither in the models we construct nor in what we perceive.
I am generally cautious and analytical, but capable of boldness at the important crossroads in life.
My vision for myself
After a 10-year stretch as corporate leader executive, I am returning to entrepreneurial roots in July 2024 with a giving spirit, and aiming to collaborate with innovative startups and nimble businesses and engage as an independent consultant, contractor, director, advisor, coach, connector.
By July of 2025 (one year after my transition out of Google), I would like to:
- Consult with Corporate entities (averaging one project active at anytime)
- Engage the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Silicon Valley and Brazil.
- Engage with startup projects in an advisory capacity (a few every week)
- Run educational initiative with a reputable entity (e.g. monthly workshop with Stanford University)
- Engage with one or two startups more deeply (investor, member of the board, co-founder)
- Coach/Mentor students and professionals on career choices (a few every week)
- Actively produce useful business/technology content to engage with the market at scale
